In January 2014, Fred Binder and Scott and Molly Lyle went on a construction mission trip to Los Laureles, Chile.  Below is a note from the Pastor of the church in Los Laureles, Osiel, that he wrote to Van Newman, retired missionary to Chile and mission trip coordinator.  The original note was written in spanish – –

Hola Van.

Osiel

TRANSLATION:
Osiel and others have been working on the church in Los Laureles.  You remember the couple that lived in the old house across the street, where we ate lunch.  His name is Naldo, and he was very interested in what we were doing. When I asked Osiel about him, he told me that he was a non-believer, (never been in an evangelical church) and a communist. Supposedly he had supported the regime of Salvador Allende in the early 70’s. Well he has been working on the church with some of the brothers from Cunco. On Friday of last week (May 23) at break time (once) he began to ask Osiel questions about us and why we had gone to Chile and why we wanted to build a church etc. Osiel explained about us and also explained his faith in Jesus Christ. Long story short, Naldo prayed to receive Jesus in his heart, and wants to follow Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Alleluia! The scripture says that the Angels in Heaven rejoice over one sinner who repents.  We can rejoice also.  Also they are planning to inaugurate the temple in August.

In Christ!   Van
