After reviewing congregational submissions and prayerful deliberation, the Committee on Committees is pleased to present a list of nominees who have agreed to serve as church leaders beginning October 2025. The list was handed out Sunday, June 1 and can be found below.

You will be asked to vote on these nominees during a called special Church Conference in worship this Sunday, June 15.

 

Adam Barnes

Adam has been a member since 2018. He currently serves as the Director of Housing at Peacehaven Farm. Adam has served in a variety of roles, including as a Deacon, a member of the COVID-19 Task Force, and on the Pastoral Residency Committee. Adam is married to Amelia Barnes, and they are grateful to be part of such a welcoming and inclusive community. What Adam loves most about First Baptist Greensboro is its spirit of hospitality—whether it’s in welcoming new members and visitors, embracing the work of the Holy Spirit, or stepping into new opportunities, the church embodies God’s gracious welcome to all.

Rebekah Carlson

Rebekah joined First Baptist Church Greensboro in 2024 and is grateful to be part of a congregation that so clearly reflects God’s love and compassion. She is a Suzuki violin teacher by profession. Rebekah is actively involved in the church’s music ministry. She is married to Matt Carlson, and together they have two children: Ingrid (13) and Jonah (10). What Rebekah loves most about First Baptist Greensboro is its deep emphasis on God’s all-encompassing love for everyone. She finds God’s care and compassion to be truly palpable within the congregation and feels honored to be part of a church that so genuinely embodies the hands and feet of Jesus.

Cathy Cochran

Cathy has been a part of First Baptist Greensboro since 2022 and has found a meaningful home in a community that genuinely cares for one another and looks for opportunities to serve beyond the church walls. She is an RN and Healthcare Executive by profession. She is actively involved in serving as a children’s ministry volunteer and participating in the Kenya Mission Team. Cathy is married to Rev. Buck Cochran, and they have two adult children, Cameron and Trey. She is grateful to be part of a congregation that lives out its faith with love, care, and service.


Spencer Conover

Spencer joined First Baptist Church Greensboro in 2024 and is grateful to be part of a community that embodies a welcoming, inclusive spirit and a relaxed, Jesus-focused atmosphere. Spencer works in financial technology sales and is married to Kaitlin Smith Conover. Together, they have two young daughters: Nora (5) and Eden (7 months). While new to the congregation, Spencer and his family already feel deeply connected to FBC through its joyful, intergenerational fellowship, incredible preschool program, and the warmth of the clergy, staff, and fellow members. He especially appreciates how every visit to the church leaves his family feeling more joyful, connected, curious, and at peace.

Kelly Cornett

Kelly has been a member since 2007. From the moment her oldest child stepped through the beloved red doors of the Preschool and they attended their first Sunday service, FBC has offered a welcoming space to breathe, reflect, and belong. Kelly is a registered nurse at the Surgical Center of Greensboro and is married to Tom Cornett. They have two children, Macey (20) and Drew (16). Over the years, Kelly has served the church in a wide range of leadership and volunteer roles: a Deacon, Weekday School Advisory Board, Pastoral Discernment Council, Committee on Committees, a number of search committees, Personnel Committee, and as a VBS volunteer. What Kelly loves most about First Baptist Greensboro is that it’s a place where her family has grown in faith, been lovingly challenged, and built lasting, meaningful relationships across generations—united in the shared mission of loving, accepting, and serving all.

Megan Kesler

Megan has been a member of First Baptist Church Greensboro since 2015 and treasures the strong sense of community she and her family have found within its walls. She especially appreciates the warmth and welcome of familiar faces and the rich intergenerational connections that bring love, wisdom, and depth to the church experience. Megan is an interior designer and the owner of MK Designs. She is married to Jimmy Kesler, and they have two children: Lily James (14) and Griffin (12). At FBC, Megan has served as a Deacon and contributed to the life of the church through her work on the Committee on Committees and as a VBS volunteer. Megan and her family are grateful to be part of a church where community, connection, and spiritual growth thrive.

Robert Nunn

Robert was first a part of First Baptist Greensboro in 1974. After an extended time away, his return to FBC felt like coming home—a powerful reminder of the deep sense of community that defines the church. Robert is a Human Resources Manager and currently serves on the Christian Assistance Fund Committee. He deeply values the relationships he has built with the pastoral staff and fellow church members, cherishing the long-lasting friendships and spiritual connections that have enriched his life. For Robert, First Baptist Greensboro is more than just a church—it’s family. Whether gathering for Sunday worship or Midweek, he is grateful for the opportunity to share in a community where faith, connection, and belonging flourish. He gives thanks to God for leading him back to a place that continues to shape and sustain him.

Stacey Pendry 

Stacey joined First Baptist Church Greensboro in 2024 and is grateful to be part of a congregation that embraces children for who they are and provides a place of grace for them to grow. She is a Speech Language Pathologist. Stacey is married to Brandon Pendry, and they have two children: Emerson (9) and Tate (5). Stacey is actively involved in the life of the church, leading Junior Church and chaperoning the Kids’ Fall Retreat. Her commitment to nurturing young hearts and voices reflects her deep appreciation for the way FBC values and supports its children. For Stacey and her family, FBC is a place of welcome, growth, and joyful connection.

Tom Sears

Tom has been a member of First Baptist Church Greensboro since 1970. A retired orthodontist, Tom has dedicated decades of service to the life of the church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1987 and served two terms, including one year as Vice Chairman in the late 1990s. His involvement has also included being on the Building & Grounds Committee, the Missions Committee, and a teacher for the Koinonia Sunday School Class. Over the years, Tom has found encouragement and friendship among the staff and values the lasting relationships and spiritual growth that have shaped his journey. His enduring commitment reflects a deep love for the church and its mission.

Sharon Smith 

Sharon rejoined First Baptist Church Greensboro in 2022, having originally been a member from 1999 to the early 2000s. She is retired from Aetna Insurance Company, where she worked as an Appeals Consultant until 2017. Sharon is married to Tom Smith. She currently serves as a teacher for the Koinonia Class and assists with the Prayer Garden. She loves First Baptist Greensboro for its warm welcome, diversity, inclusion, strong commitment to community outreach, its beautiful sanctuary, and vibrant music ministry.
