The sermon is based the account of Jesus’ ascension in Acts 1:1-11. He says, “How many times have we assumed the way of Christ — the way of faith — is a journey up? But it’s actually the story of Christ coming down — all the way down into our brokenness, woundedness, fear — and then Christ’s people following in that way.”
The sermon for Pentecost is based on two different accounts of the coming of the Holy Spirit found in John 20 and Acts 2. He says “This day of Pentecost reminds us that sometimes the things we end up closing ourselves off from are the things that can also renew us and redeem us— the things that flow from the very Spirit of God.”
