Tommy Starnes retiring as Director of Recreation

On Sunday, February 14, Tommy Starnes shared with First Baptist Greensboro his decision to transition from his role of Director of Recreation Ministries at First Baptist. Tommy’s passion and skills have been essential to the recreation ministries of our church, especially in his leadership of First Baptist’s Upward Basketball program and Greensboro’s Church Basketball League (CBL). As Pastor Alan Sherouse said, “One of the things I hear most throughout Greensboro is, ‘I grew up playing ball in your gym.’ An entire generation of kids will be saying that in the years ahead, having been formed in so many positive ways through the recreation ministries of First Baptist, and Tommy is the biggest single reason for that.”

We’re grateful that Tommy and Becky Starnes remain active members and ambassadors for the future work of First Baptist. And we will be relying on Tommy’s wisdom as we carry recreation ministries into the future.

But for now, we invite you to join us in celebrating Tommy. If you’d like to join others in making a gift in Tommy’s honor to support the ministries dear to him, contributions can be made through means listed at fbcgso.org/give with “Recreation Ministry” listed in the memo.
