In the FBC Youth Ministry, we seek to connect the passions of our youth with God’s passions already at work in the world. We are an inclusive community of imperfect people striving for authenticity and fellowship. Come and be a part of a great group of youth as we journey together.

Everyone is welcome at FBC!

Our weekly activities start on Sunday mornings with Bible Study at 9:15 am and Worship at 10:30 am. Sunday afternoons begin at 4 pm with Handbells, 5 pm Youth Choir, and Discipleship at 6 pm. Wednesday nights are a time of fun, fellowship, and new experiences from 6:15-7:15 pm. Also, be sure to keep an eye out for special events, retreats, mission trips, choir tours, volunteering in the community, and so much more. We hope you’ll join us!

What does a Virtual Youth Ministry look like?                                                                                                             March 18, 2020
I (Chris Cherry) have been a part of more Zoom calls on my computer in the last 48 hours than any other time in my life. I also had a Group FaceTime with the Youth Leadership Team on Monday morning. Margaux has even “helped” me work the last couple days.
Needless to say, there’s unlimited ways to connect to youth who are already so screen dependent (their youth minister tends to be, too, if I’m honest). The question is how to do that effectively, efficiently, and in groups to continue our hope for community. Below you’ll find a number of opportunities to stay engaged in our Youth Ministry.
As always, I’ll be happy to answer any questions about any of these strategies. My email is, and my cell number is 502-396-6942. Texting is best since Tory and I trade shifts to play with, encourage, and teach Margaux, but I’ll return calls asap.I’m grateful for all of our youth and families!
The Youth at First Baptist Greensboro are a priority to us and we love them with all our hearts. I love my job because your youth are amazing. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
That said, please emphasize to your youth how important it is that they stay home during this time. It matters so much. All of us have people who are older that we love. All of us know folks with autoimmune disorders or who take immunosuppressants who we love. All of us know someone who is vulnerable to this virus. This is the real deal. Please stay at home for the health of others, for the sake of our health care system, and to help this pass more quickly.
All of you reading this are inspiring. I can’t wait to continue to be the open Church with you, even while the building itself is closed.
Slack Group
Slack is both an app and a computer-based site to centralize and keep everyone connected. That means youth with a smart phone, with a school computer, with an ipad, or access to any device can join us. No phone number needed, and Slack is not a social networking site.
We now have a FBCGSO Youth Ministry Slack community. This system allows us to have various conversation channels happening at the same time, and allows us to make efficient announcements to the group as a whole. Conversation channels already include Announcements, Game Ideas, Life Updates, Photos, Prayer Requests, Theology Questions, and What I’m Watching. Youth Leaders are invited to join as well.

Parents/Guardians, if you have hesitations, please reach out to me. I’m happy to answer questions.
Zoom Calls
We want our youth to stay connected with their friends. One of the best ways to do this and to see each other face to face (even from a distance) is to utilize Zoom. The church now has a Zoom account, so we will be hosting Zoom calls for our youth during each week that we are advised not to meet in person.
On Monday nights at 7:30 pm, we will host a Zoom call for any and all Middle Schoolers. I will send out the link to join ahead of time. We will talk, catch up, and be in community with one another. Our Middle School Youth Leaders will be invited to those calls as well. Parents are welcome to listen in and monitor but don’t need to join the calls themselves, as that can impact the conversation.
The same will be true for High School Zoom calls on Tuesday nights at 8:00 pm. I will send out the link ahead of time and the High School Youth Leaders will be invited to those as well.
Zoom is really easy to use and is a great tool for us to see each other during this time of social distancing. Those calls will start next week, and the link will be posted in all our normal communication places.
Games, The Bible, and More
Quick Hits!
We will still play games as a Youth Ministry! Stay tuned to our Instagram feed (FBCGreensboroYouth) for twice weekly Photo Challenges (Mondays and Fridays) and once weekly Video Challenges (Wednesdays, STARTING TODAY!!). I’m also hoping we can get in on Board Game Arena, but their site is currently crashed… so stay tuned. Additionally, I am looking into group trivia and other games on Kahoot. Regardless, we have game ideas and we will still be able to laugh and have fun together. If and when those online gaming chances open up, I’ll send out information and links.
Each Sunday afternoon, look for a short 5 minute video of me on our Youth Instagram talking a little bit about the Bible text that was preached on in virtual worship that morning.
Expect Youth Leaders to be checking in at least once a week. There are tons of people in our church that love our youth ,and we want more than just family and the youth minister to be checking in.
The E-news during Social Distancing will be used to update everyone on ways to stay connected, but it will also be used to help resource parents and families during this time. There’s a lot of anxiety, a lot of misinformation, and a lot of uncertainty. We want to make sure all of our church members have the tools they need to both get through and make the most of this time.

Upcoming Events!

Youth Summer Mission Trip: Washington DC | June 21-28, 2020

This summer, we are thrilled to announce that we will be going to DC on June 21-28. We will be staying at National Baptist Memorial Church in downtown DC, which is an easy Metro ride from all the big sites of the city. During the week, we will help lead National Baptist’s kids summer camp. We’ll get to do everything from play games to crafts to preparing lunch to leading the Bible story. They’re excited to have us and it’ll be a great opportunity to hear stories, make friendships, and build relationships. Plans are also underway for us to see a Washington Nationals baseball game, visit some Smithsonian museum, and see other DC sites. Cost for this trip is $225 total and the deposit is $75. If you’re student and would like to earn money towards the cost of the trip, sign up to help with Trivia! Night by talking to Chris Cherry. You won’t want to miss this trip!

 Passport Missions Camp | July 6-11, 2020

One of the best opportunities of the year is attending Passport Missions Camp on July 6-11. We will again be headed to Greenville, SC where the camp is hosted by Furman University. Youth will have Bible study groups, mission sites, nightly parties, and plenty of free time. We’ll get the chance to meet youth from churches all over the region and, in the past, these connections have turned into real friendships. The camp theme this year is BE and we’ll use each day to connect to the ideas of Be Still, Be Loved, Be One, and Be With. Passport is always fun and always meaningful. You won’t want to miss it! Cost is $445 total and the deposit is $100. If you’re student and would like to earn money towards the cost of the trip, sign up to help with Trivia! Night by talking to Chris Cherry. As always, spots are limited, so sign up today!
