First Baptist Church Preschool

Ruth Cetrone  |  Infant Teacher

After 25 years of teaching pre-school children, and a short retirement, I decided to go back to work in the infant room. I love the challenge of working with these little ones and laugh a lot at their actions. Nurturing these babies and seeing them grow is why I do this. In the first year of a child’s life they grow so quickly and changes take place daily. My goal is to adjust the schedule to the child’s needs and help teach them. When I see their smiling faces I know I am in the right place.

At home I enjoy, early morning water aerobics, taking walks, and biking with my husband. The blessings in my life are my 9 grandchildren.

Mondie Sipe  |  Infant Assistant Teacher

Mondie graduated from UNCG with a BS in nursing and recently retired after twenty plus years working as a public health nurse.  She also spent thirteen years as a stay at home mom and it was during this time that she worked at First Baptist Weekday School with three year olds. Being a preschool teacher was one of her favorite jobs and the preschool staff was like family.  Mondie is thrilled to be back working with these precious little ones.  She has a recently retired husband, two married children and an adorable grand-daughter.

After working there for several months, she was offered a job as a teacher’s assistant in a middle school. Brittany worked in an autism classroom for two years before having twins and becoming a stay at home mom. Becoming a preschool teacher is a dream for Brittany! She enjoys every minute of being at FBC Preschool, surrounded by God, and teaching the sweet children about God’s love.

Mary Buchanan  |  Teacher, 5-day 2s

I grew up in Cincinnati, OH and came down South to graduate from Guilford College in 1983 with a B.S. in Business Management. After marrying, I worked in retail and office management, then in the field of advertising before our second son was born. I grew to really love helping in the toddler Sunday School class at FBC!

My two boys attended FBC Weekday School as preschoolers and as they grew into school age, I began as an Assistant Teacher in the 2’s in 1994. Three years later, I became the lead teacher when the current lead teacher left mid-year. It was then that I truly discovered God’s gift to me – to help young children grow socially, emotionally, and spiritually by exploring the world around them. Fourteen years later, I retired from the Weekday School when our younger son entered college, but in His abundant grace, God called me back to my teaching position with the 2’s in 2011. I’m very blessed with a talented and caring Staff family, and I enjoy the loving relationships we share with our precious students and their families!

Outside of teaching, I enjoy running, hiking, flower gardening, and traveling. I especially love to travel to see my granddaughter Ellie and her family in Atlanta, with a baby sister expected to join them before school begins this year!

Beverly Hunt  |  5-day 2s Assistant

Beverly has been teaching at FBC for 18 years. She started teaching when her youngest child was 2 years old. Beverly loves to read, take long walks, and be with family and friends. She also loves to tend to her flowers and be outside. Beverly attends Westside Chapel where she has been a member since she was about 7 years old.

She and her co-teacher have been teaching together since 2002. Jan received HER Early Childhood Education Credentials from GTCC in 2003.

Outside the Preschool, Jan enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and family making memories, all things dealing with music (play the piano, hand bells at her church, autoharp, guitar), and reading.

This is where she found her inner child and her passion for developing the growth of children. She also tutored 2 girls, ages 9 and 12, and worked as a substitute at FBC.

Corrie is originally from Idaho and moved to the east coast in middle school and would eventually make her way down to North Carolina after college graduation. Mann has been educating young dancers at the Dance Project for five years. Before accepting her position at First Baptist, Mann was working at the Baby House Preschool. She has volunteered at both the Gateway and After Gateway centers, has been a nanny for several families, and frequently enjoys animal sitting. Once a member of PENC, Mann’s passion for early childhood education developed post graduation and soon after she entered the world of preschool. Mann is ecstatic to be working with children under God’s influence. In addition to being a First Baptist Weekday instructor, Mann continues to dance and is also an avid runner. In her spare time, you can find Ms. Mann running on the Greenway, playing with her dog, Tucker, or cooking up a storm in the kitchen!
