MARCH 14 UPDATE
I am writing to inform you that First Baptist Weekday Preschool will be closed March 16 through at least March 30 in response to the North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper’s executive order that all public K-12 schools close to prevent the spread of COVID-19. While FBC Preschool is not a public school institution, we feel this decision is best for our health and safety of our families. We will follow the recommendations of the state and Guilford County Schools to decide if preschool needs to be closed beyond March 30th.
After Guilford County Schools releases a plan for makeup days, we will do the same, as soon as possible. Please be aware that we will provide as many makeup days as possible to make up for two lost weeks of school.
Our Parents’ Night Out and Art Show will be postponed until May, please watch all our communication avenues (social media, email messages, notes in your child’s bag). Child artwork was completed yesterday and will be available for purchase at the Art Show, but also through the end of the school year in the preschool office. The Silent Auction will still be held in April via Facebook, please follow the page here for more information. Tickets will still be available when we return to school.
As I told my eight year old this morning, we all have big feelings when our plans change. As a parent of three, I understand the hardships this closure means for our families. However, we also feel like protecting our community’s most vulnerable individuals is most important. In a few decades, our children will tell their children about school closures and a world shutdown; but with our actions, they can also tell about a joined world working towards a better life for all. Please see links below provided by FBC Minister to Children and Families,Christina McCord, regarding ways to talk to your children about COVID-19 and how to help with any possible anxieties.
FBC Senior Pastor (and preschool parent) Alan Sherouse wrote in a letter to FBC congregation this week: “Amidst all the concern and change, I hope you can still hear the voice that says, “Be not afraid”. It’s the voice of God who gives us the capacity to reason and prepare; gives us one another in all the many ways we are connected; and gives us the enduring promise to go with us always.”
Let it be so,
