Sermons for Lent

“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” Matthew 16:24-25

What are you giving up for Lent? Many of us share the practice of daily sacrifice during the season of Lent, giving up things like chocolate, soda, social media or Starbucks. The 40 day Lenten practice is a small reminder of Jesus and the sacrifice exemplified in his cross. In our sermons this Lent — “Giving Up Your Own Way” — we are taking this idea a step further. Using our lectionary passages, we’re talking about those things God calls us to give up — not just for 40 days, but for all of our days — so that we can take up the life of Jesus Christ.
