Persons
aged 55 and more are VIP's at First Baptist Church!
A significant sector of our church membership identify
themselves as "Senior Adults," and a healthy percentage
of our ministry is directed to--and through--this vitally
important group.
The watchword of our umbrella organization, the Senior
Adult Council, has come to us from the poetry of Robert
Browning: "Grow old along with me! The best is yet
to be--the last of life, for which the first was made"
(Rabbi Ben Ezra, St. I.).
Under the watchful eye of the Senior Adult Council,
our older adult ministries include the following:
PrimeTime Activities
So-named because this gathering for persons 55 and older
takes place on the first weekday (Monday) of the first
week of the month, October-December and February-June.
A wide spectrum of activities is included: handicrafts,
bridge foursomes, exercise classes, lectures and presentation
subjects of general interest to senior adults, an ongoing
Bible study, a wonderful lunch and after-lunch entertainment.
For more information, or to make a reservation for activities
and lunch, call 274-3286.
Homebound Ministry
First Baptist Church employees a dedicated Minister
to the Homebound, Kate Kitchen. Kate's ministry
includes visitation in many of the homes of those FBC
members who are unable to be out. She also makes regular
contact with homebound members living in area rest homes,
nursing homes, and retirement and assisted living centers.
Friends' Day
Members of First Baptist Church bring homebound members
to the church building on one very special day of each
year. Known as "Friends Days," these occasions provide
shut-in members the opportunity to renew old acquaintances,
enjoy entertainment and a fine luncheon, and hear words
of encouragement from pastoral staff.
Historical Committee
The Historical Committee have solicited
historical artifacts and remembrances from longtime
FBC members. A Heritage Room has been established with the documented history of First Baptist Church, from a pulpit in our West Market Street location to photos to letters and more that will help preserve the rich history of our church. You can visit the Heritage Room any time. It is located across from the Chapel entrance just off the Atrium. Persons with an interest in the
history and heritage of First Baptist Church will be
able to find many helpful resources.
Travel, Tours & Pilgrimages
Senior adults at FBC are avidly interested in travel!
The Senior Adult Council sponsors several longer tours
each year. Day trips and shorter tours are organized
by the Executive Committee of Alpha Activities.
