A message from Rev. Douglas Vancil about Sunday’s service of music, its meaning to him, and its inspiration for us all. We hope to see you tomorrow at 10:30!

“About this time of year two years ago I was hiking at dusk and searching on my phone for some inspirational choral music. I stumbled onto the newly released ‘Jubilate Deo’ by composer Dan Forrest, and I knew after only a few minutes of listening that this was what we needed to do. I’ve come to accept moments like these as Divine intervention.

Seeking inspiration in Christian ministry is often like hiking on a sparsely marked trail. To find the right way we have to depend on the worn path beneath our feet, the direction the sun and the wind is moving, and the trees standing along the way. Metaphorically speaking the path is the Word of God that never changes, a solid place we can stand. The Spirit of God is like the wind that invisibly moves in and around us reminding us of God’s constant living presence. And the trees are like our traveling partners who are sharing the journey with us.

All of these have been present on this journey of preparing ‘Jubilate Deo.’ This expansive work beautifully carries the venerable text of Psalm 100 through the languages and musical idioms of various world communities emphasizing not only God’s joy in creating the whole earth but also God’s continuous work renewing it.

Many singers and players have come alongside me since that lone hike two years ago when I first heard the Spirit nudge me toward this great music, and now we invite you to join us on Sunday as we complete the journey together.

Jubilate Deo, omnis terra!
Rejoice in the Lord, all the earth!”

A Psalm of thanksgiving.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
   Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.

Know that the Lord is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100 | John 10:9-10,14-15 |  Philippians 3:4-7 | Acts 2:43-47
